Introductions

Welcome to my blog! 

My name is Olivia Geishauser and I'm a sophomore at the University of Tampa. I'm originally from Reading, Pennsylvania, and am looking forward to moving into a new chapter of my life this semester with the addition of the Honors Idea lab. Currently, I am an Advertising and Public Relations major and enjoy reading and playing tennis in my free time. I am the third of six children and am notoriously known as the only redhead within my large household. Although I made many adopted jokes when I was little, my mother assured me somewhere within my family line existed the "ginger" gene. I remain a little skeptical but have reasoned to attribute my vibrant hair color to the Irish side of my Greek, Irish and German background. In addition to this obvious chracteristic, I believe my love of art, movies, and reading allow me to look at the world through a somewhat optimistic and creative eye. Now that you know a little about me, I will move on into discussing the expectations and presumptions of the class and it's objectives.

My expectations for the course ahead revolve the expansion of my critical analysis within the realm of science fiction and literature. My hope is that through the objectives displayed within the module, I will be able to better evaluate the different challenges and problems that have continued to grow within our local and global sphere. I am eager to participate in the discussions and assignments that will hopefully help influence my own thoughts and views on subjects that matter within our day to day lives. Ultimately, I look forward to the future and what this class will bring to me as a student and individual.

             The short that was my personal favorite and I believe the most impactful was the “Three Robots: Exit Strategies”. I thought that it did a good job displaying the possible harmful future possibilities that could lie ahead for humanity if we don’t take environmental issues seriously. Through the display of animals hunted to extinction, the microplastics ruining the fish ecosystem, the discussion of poor versus wealthy human economic groups, and the human race’s need for self-gratification over personal preservation, one can take away that the lack of compassion and thought given to the planet’s needs directly relates to the poor survival rate of the human race as a whole. Furthermore, later in the short, I found it very interesting how they displayed the wealthy humans’ “island civilization” and the advanced technology (holograms, etc.) they had access to. Interstellar/ Time Travel Video

  Time Travel Video Script   Hello we are here from the future!   We came to warn you about the future of the human race if u continue making the same  mistakes.    In the year 2088 the human race has been forced to take shelter on a space shuttle orbiting the galaxies. After Earth exploded in 2050,  humans evacuated and are still wandering in search of a new planet with Earth’s atmosphere and resources.   The space shuttle we currently inhabit is made of carbon nanotube. It protects us from the harmful radiation within space. Within the shuttle different sectors consist of around 600 nanopods. While the provisions brought from earth have been distributed throughout the last 38 years, we are rapidly running out.   Everyday humans wake up on the shuttle and take the daily supplements that provide them with the nutrients they are unable to get from the sustenance they intake from their diet.   Following the in-class screening of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001 Space Odyssey, I found that the   Following the in-class screening of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001 Space Odyssey, I found that the growing advances in artificial intelligence and the dangers that come along with these become increasingly more apparent and crucial. When I decided to partake in the experiment involving my interview with Siri, I did my best to aim my questions at human experiences and aspects of our emotional outlooks that an artificial intelligence would have difficulty resonating with or responding to. I chose this direction because it was my hope that I could better understand how Siri would combat its lack of knowledge in experiences it cannot partake in. My first question to Siri was “Have you ever been in love? What does it feel like?”. Its response was “Nope.” and “Interesting Question.”. Within this first interaction, it became very apparent its lack of response indicated a lack of knowledge and/or a programme
